The annual Rum Runner took place on 5th July in breezy conditions with 6 skippers starting the race, but with four finishers. Congratulations to Les Leonhardt who was comfortably first in the Edel 665 with Donal O’Connor in 2nd. Congratulations to Dennis Bell for his 3rd place finish in the McGregor.

The racing season opened in a delayed Vanexan Cup competition, postponed from the previous weekend with 5 entries including an open entry CL14 from the day use launch area. In windy conditions the winner was Hans Rosch in the Catalina 22. Les Leonhardt was second in the Edel 665, and Donal O’Connor in 3rd, with 2 retirements.

In an excellent turnout for the The Wildwood Cup, postponed to 10th August from the long weekend, the ten competitors encountered gusty conditions that led to some exciting and energetic racing. Congratulations to the winner Hans Rosch in the Catalina 22. Les Leonhardt was second in the Edel 665, and Frank Hlodan and Jack Galbraith a commendable 3rd in the Sandpiper.

A good turnout on a fine July day saw 9 boats compete for the Rum Runner on Saturday 6th. All boats finished this race and it was Les in the Edel 665 who won the race from the Minuet’s of Donal (2nd) and Bernadette (3rd). Congratulations to everyone who took part and we look forward to more excitement in the Wildwood Cup on 3rd August.
