It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Peter Case, 86, on July 17, 2014. Peter was a member of Wildwood Sailing Club for 28 years, serving in various positions in the executive for 21 years of his membership. In honour of his many years of service to the club, Peter was made a lifetime member when he retired from the executive. He was a passionate sailor, avid racer, and indeed a mainstay of the sailing club. He was at the heart of many decisions that were made in ensuring that the grounds were kept in the best shape possible and that the club was an enjoyable place to spend time with good sailing friends. Peter was a gentleman and always a diplomat. He knew everyone in the club and had a special gift for drawing out a member's particular talent to the benefit of the club. In recent years, Peter's health was fragile and he was unable to visit the club but he continued to maintain an interest in and ask about the members and the organization that had been such an important part of his life. Peter is pictured above with his wife Eleanor who also contributed a great deal to the club for many years as a member of the social committee. Our thoughts are with Eleanor, Jamie, Heather and Pam at this sad time as they honour their loved one. We honour a dedicated member of the Wildwood Sailing Club. Eleanor was born on the family farm in Cotham in Saskatchewan on June 27, 1927, the daughter of the late Richard Howell Everall and the former Margaret Ethel Black. She was educated both at Cotham and Lachute Quebec and attended MacDonald College of McGill University earning a BSc in Home Economics in 1949. She spent her working career as a hospital dietitian, retiring from Stratford General Hospital in 1985. Eleanor met her future husband while they were both attending MacDonald College. They were married at Ste Anne de Bellevue, Quebec on August 8, 1952. Eleanor was active in the Stratford Chapters of the University Women's Club and the IODE. She organized club suppers for the Wildwood Sailing Club, supporting Peter in his role as Club Commodore. Her passion was to be independent and active, and she was a regular of the neighbourhood walking the family dog at dawn and at dusk; unfortunately health issues had confined her to a wheelchair for the past three years. She was pre-deceased by her husband Peter, her parents, brother Wallace and sister Betty. Left to mourn her passing are sons Michael of Toronto and Jamie (Lisa) of Penang, Malaysia; daughters Heather of Manhattan and Pam of Vancouver. Also survived by grandson, Johnathan and numerous nieces and nephews.
